Stan Sakai has been doing Usagi Yojimbo for 30 years as a creator owned book. There have been many publishers but has found a home for the book currently at Dark Horse Comics. Recently Stan’s wife Sharon who has had some major medical issues recently. Although they had medical insurance and she is recovering but still needs home care and there are still bills that they are going to have to pay out-of-pocket. CAPS (Cartoon Art Professional Society) is currently having an auction of donated artwork and other items that are currently on Ebay LINK

Later this summer Dark Horse Comics is doing a benefit book The Stan Sakai Project with some of the top artist in the industry donating art for the book and all of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to Stan and Sharon. CAPS is also helping coordinating the book with Dark Horse. It has been announced that there was so much artwork donated to the project that the book will now be 160 pages and retail for $29.99 on July 23rd and that is a great way you can afford the artwork and donate to a great cause. The art below is by Bill Morrison. So if you can’t afford any of the auction pieces you can certainly pick up the benefit book this July.
