E3 2013 Photo Wrap Up

e3-2013

Well another E3 goes down in the history books as one of the more exciting shows in a few years. Both Microsoft and Sony showed off their new consoles and Nintendo showed off a number of franchise games. So here are some of the photos that I took on Wednesday of the insanity that is E3.

So I would say that Sony with their announcement of the PS4 being $100 less than the XboxOne was the real surprise at the show. This was of course after Microsoft’s major misstep of their handling of the DRM of lent or used games. Sony not only addressed the issue they put up an instructional video on how to do it.

Sony had the biggest booth of the show and had tons of PS3, PS Vita and of course PS4 game to play.

Surely one of the strangest games I have ever played was OctoDad that is a PSN game. You had to control an octopus by using the R2 & L2 buttons to move each leg and then the R1 button switched between the legs and the arm that used the L1 button. It was like trying to control jello. Very strange but once you got the controls down it was pretty neat. Sony is really trying to court the Indy game developers for their systems.

And of course the PS4 console design was on display.

They even brought a few of their own celebrities to mingle with the crowd.

For Me Microsoft had a bit of an odd booth. There were plenty of games but a very strange layout of the games. It seemed very cramped at times not because there were too many people in the booth but the game kiosks were very close to each other that did not leave much room to walk around. Very odd considering you have a new console coming out.

Microsoft was also showing off the redesign of the 360

And of course the XboxOne

Nintendo’s booth was all about the games and the characters that we love. While the WiiU got off to a rocky start I think that there are some signs that there is still some hope for the console. We will all probably buy one sooner or later due to the franchises that we all really love.

In the South Hall was almost all of the major third-party publishers. Disney Interactive was one of the hottest booths on the floor. Why you say? Well free swag of course!  Saying that they were promoting Disney Infinity was an understatement. The game took up almost 95% of there booth and they had two very special things to give away. One was a t-shirt that were being silk screed on the floor and a figure from the upcoming game. Each one would cost you at least an hour and a half in line to get and as you can see I spent nearly three hours in line.

The other 5% of there booth was a theater that was showing off Fantasia. It’s basically and evolvement of Rock Band using the Kinect for the XboxOne. It allows you to not only play the song but to morph and add different instruments than the original versions. It was pretty neat but unsure if anyone is going to care after the great plastic interment game crash from a few years ago.

Sega was there with a new Sonic Game (I know I was shocked too O_o)

So another E3 wraps up. It was a great show with some surprises and some disappointments. There was a large crowd and there was a disturbing trend of having theater gameplay instead of being able to play the game yourself. Sometimes it’s great to watch another person play a game on the floor so you can take it in but when the developer is playing they know exactly what to do. It takes the spontaneity out of it. There was definitely more line waiting than in years past and if you are there only one day it make it tough to see things. Next years show will be a real battleground for game with both of the new consoles being out for six to eight months and developers will start getting more familiar with them.
