Over the weekend Deadpool broke all sorts of box office records. Here is how it all stacked up. #1 opening weekend ($132.75M) ever in Fox history #1 opening weekend ever for an R-rated film #1 February opening weekend #1 Winter opening weekend #2 opening weekend ever for an original Marvel property title #5 opening weekend ever for a Marvel property title Even more impressive is that this all happened with a very small $58 million budget that is very low by Hollywood standards for a major title with visual effects and a star.
It’s been very difficult to get these reviews up on the site and I thank you for bearing with me. First there was SDCC where there was no chance that any reviews were going up that week and then last week I came down with the dreaded Con Crud that took me down for the count.
I want to say something before we get to this weeks reviews. All of the reviews of comics that I do here are the physical printed versions of the comic.
Another year around the sun means that the year 2014 has come to an end. As with most years there is both good and bad that we all go through.
With the success of the Marvel superhero films it’s was no big surprise that Warner Bros. who owns DC comics has decided to hit the overdrive button to play catch up with their own universe of films.
Thankfully things are getting back on track with the old schedule here at Pop Culture Maven. This week is a mix of new number one issues and some continuing books make a return appearance to the review list.
DC/Vertigo comics did very well this pilot season for television. They placed all four of their pilots to series. Gotham (FOX), Flash (CW), iZombie (CW), and Constantine (NBC) and add in Arrow (CW) that is going to be in its third season it is good news for comic book fans this fall.
